Lead Marine Technician

Slip Side Marine — Tacoma, WAFull-Time$36–40/hr + Performance BonusMonday–Saturday

About Slip Side Marine

Tacoma's Only Fixed-Price Mobile Marine Maintenance Operation.

We come to the customer's slip, execute a focused menu of five services on 18–32ft recreational boats, and send a photo inspection report when the job is done. No estimates. No waitlists. No black box.

We're building the first standardized, franchise-ready marine maintenance brand in the Pacific Northwest. This is a ground-floor position at Unit 001. The tech who helps us prove the model here has a real path to something bigger.

The Role

You Show Up. You Do the Work Right. You Send the Photo Report.

That's the job. The owner handles scheduling, customer communication, parts procurement, and marketing. Your lane is technical execution — delivering the five menu services to a documented standard, every time, on every boat.

This is not a diagnostic-heavy shop role. It's a high-repetition, high-standard mobile operation. If you take pride in clean work, show up when you say you will, and want to be part of building something from scratch, read on.

What You'll Do

Execute Slip Side Marine's five service offerings: Spring Commissioning, Fall Winterization, Annual Engine Service, Electrical Service, and Pre-Purchase Inspection
Follow documented SOPs for each service — every job, every time
Complete a photo inspection report at the end of every job and submit through Jobber
Communicate professionally with customers on-site
Flag anything outside menu scope immediately — no scope creep, no freelancing
Maintain tools and equipment to a clean, professional standard
Represent the brand at every marina you visit

What We're Looking For

Required

3+ years hands-on experience with outboard, I/O, and inboard gasoline marine engines
Strong working knowledge of Yamaha and/or Mercury/MerCruiser systems
Competent with marine electrical: battery systems, bilge pumps, shore power
Reliable vehicle capable of carrying tools to marina locations
Smartphone proficiency — you'll use Jobber for job management and photo reports
Clean background check
Shows up on time. Every time.

Preferred

ABYC certification (Marine Engines & Fuel Systems and/or Marine Electrical)
Experience with Jobber or similar field service software
Familiarity with South Sound marinas

Not Required

Experience with diesel, fiberglass, hull repair, complex rigging, or re-powers — we refer all of that out and you'll never be asked to touch it

What We Offer

The Details

Base Pay

$36–40/hr depending on experience and certification

Bonus

Performance bonus tied to jobs completed and Google reviews generated

Schedule

Monday–Saturday, 7am–6pm — no nights, no Sundays

Scope

Every job has a defined scope — no open-ended diagnostic rabbit holes

Culture

Small team, clear systems, no shop politics

Growth

Ground-floor position at a franchise-track operation — the first tech who helps prove Unit 001 has options at Unit 002

What This Is Not

This is not a traditional shop role. There is no shop. You work at marinas, on docks, in the water. If you need a lift, a parts room, and a break room, this isn't the right fit.

If you're self-directed, take pride in your work, and want to be part of building something from the beginning, it might be exactly right.
